Mothers across the country have been encouraged to endlessly pursue their careers without giving up while taking care of their families.
Speaking during a motherâs day forum on Friday in Dar es Salaam organised by NMB to commemorate Motherâs day (celebrated internationally today) Head, Customer Experience at NMB Ms Abella Tarimo said that for people to achieve anything in life they need clarity on what they what to achieve, how to achieve and lastly a way to measure success.
âAs long as one has a clear vision and support system juggling between a career & family is manageable. Most women believe caring for a family and establishing a career at the same time is an impossible task for a mother to achieve,â she said.
Themed âGlass Ceiling and Motherhoodâ, Ms Tarimo stressed that no one can accomplish things alone. âWorking mothers should establish support systems no matter what they want to accomplish at home or work.â
She pointed out that, âMothers need to be there for their children, especially those who are still breastfeeding. It does cause challenge to careers but this is where as mothers we need to use our resourcefulness to be able to balance home and work, and this is where the support system comes in.â
She explained that the support system can be members of the family, husband, maids; people that will be a helping hand for a mother or any person who has focused in achieving a targeted goal. âA mother just needs to realize the type of support system she needs.â
On the other hand, Senior Relationship Manager; Business Liability, Business Banking Ms Beatrice Mwambije said that working mothers who are overwhelmed and think of quitting their career to take care of their children need to evaluate the situation first before doing so.
The rigorous daily schedule of caring for an infant may tempt mothers to stay at home and care for their children. However, if you are a career person, there are ways you can strike a balance and achieve both successfully. Establish plans on how you can balance both career and family,â she commented.
Adding that, âMothers should think of the future in terms of financial security and their relevance as human beings after the children are grown up. Plan the future while putting all into consideration like sudden death or illness of a partner before deciding that quitting your job is the best option.â
